Then
came World War II. Every male member eligible
for military service either enlisted or was drafted
into the service. Once more the organization became
idle. It was kept alive only, however, by continuing
payment of dues by all members. At the end of
the war when the men who entered the service were
discharged and returned to civilian life, they
again picked up where they left off. They resumed
to undertake the affairs of the organization and
actively engaged in functions to revive and improve
the standing of the organization. Members became
more aware and interested in their organization.
They actively and earnestly participated in its
functions to raise funds to accomplish its objectives.
From then on the organization began to grow steadily.
In
the early 1960's when other San Estebanians began
concentrating in other cities of the state, the
distance involving travel between these cities
made it impractical for members to attend meetings
and functions of the mother organization. It was
more logical that branches of the organization
be formed. Thus, the San Esteban circle of Terra
Bella was organized. Then the San Esteban Circle
of Hawaii and Guam followed suit. The San Estebanians
of Los Angles and adjoining cities is in the process
of organization. Although each of these organizations
is run independently, they are bound by the same
objectives of the mother organization which now
added hospitalization and death benefits for all
members.
During
the past 25 years, the organization has shown
significant gains financially, socially and economically.
Most commendable is the formation of a Youth program
in which our youth participate in activities such
as fund raising and social events of the organization.
A scholarship program for our children was also
started. Thanks to the initiative, insight, dedication
and devotion to duty of our officers, and of course
the cooperation of an active membership. IT has
kept these organizational branches functioning
successfully since the founding of the first San
Esteban Circle 76 years ago.
