to Host Cristo Rey
The Feast of Christ the King (or properly,
the Solemnity of Christ the King) is a holy day in the liturgical
calendar celebrated by the Catholic Church.
Pope Pius XI instituted the Solemnity of Christ the King
on 11 December 1925 in his encyclical Quas Primas. At that
time he saw the rise of atheistic communism and secularism
as a direct result of man's turning away from Christ's sovereignty,
and man's denying of the authority of Christ's Church. This
result was "disorder" or a move away from the
Divine Order. The Feast of Christ the King was set on the
last Sunday in October.
After the Second Vatican Council, the calendar reforms of
1969 moved the date of the Feast of Christ the King to the
last Sunday before the next liturgical year's Advent (Advent
marking the start of the liturgical year and beginning four
Sundays before Christmas Day). Before this change, the Sunday
before Advent bore the designation "Last Sunday After
Pentecost" and had its own special Mass, regardless
of the number of Sundays there were between Pentecost and
Advent (23 to 28) in that particular year.
This year’s celebration will be hosted by our Saint
Stephen Proto-Martyr Parish Church.
Although the preparation for this forthcoming celebration
is still at the planning stage, several meetings and consultations
with the different religious organizations was already initiated
by Fr. Amador Cabaluna, our parish priest, to promulgate
plans and different activities for the annual event.
According to Fr. Cabaluna, he directed the
lead organization Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) and the
Parish Finance Council of San Esteban to find a way to raise
funds for the preparation of the said activities. One way
of doing this is through solicitations via Souvenir Program,
in which, the proceeds will be used for this year’s
preparations and needs of the celebration and if ever there
is sufficient amount, it will be used for improvement of
the church and repair of the convent.
As of this writing, Fr. Cabaluna is in the
United States of America (USA) on tour to different places
in the mainland, Hawaii and Canada. Temporarily, Fr. Flor
Escalona, assistant priest of Santa, Ilocos Sur, is performing
the tasks left by our parish priest including the planning
of the Cristo Rey Celebration.
The parish of Saint Augustine in Bantay,
Ilocos Sur hosted the previous occasion.

| Noli
Eala Resigns
Our fellow San Estebanian, Noli Eala resigned
as Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner.
His sudden resignation was triggered when the Supreme Court
handed the decision disbarring him from practicing law.
The high court finds him guilty of immorality, which is
living with a married woman.
Eala resigned before the PBA Board
of Governors formally acts regarding the decision of the
High Court. He said, he does not want to involve the league
nor his live-in partner into the controversy.
The former TV broadcaster has improved the
popularity of the basketball league in his five year stint
as PBA Commissioner. He succeeded former commissioner Jun
Bernardino, who became ill in 2002.

SENHS
PTCA
The San Esteban National High School Parents,
Teachers and Community Association (PTCA) elected its new
sets of officers for the school year 2007-2008. Out of the
fifteen (15) newly designated board of directors, they have
chosen new officers of the association.
The role of the PTCA is to remind
our community of its obligations to children and provides
parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf
of every child while providing the best tools for parents
to help their children be successful students.
PTCA does not act alone. Working in cooperation
with the SENHS teaching staff, PTCA collaborates on projects
that benefit students and that bring valuable resources
to its members. Studies have proven that membership in PTA
provides your child and other children around you with a
greater chance of achieving in school. As a PTCA member,
you are more likely to be an informed, involved parent.
These are dangerous times for children. More than ever,
it is important for parents to learn ways to keep children
safe, trouble free and involved in school. PTCA is the best
place to gain that knowledge.
