The Philippine Cultural Foundation of Hawaii held its yearly selection of Parents of the Year on July 9, 2005 at the Ilikai Hotel in Waikiki. There were eight outstanding coup les nominated and Dr. and Mrs. Ben Galindo of Aiea were chosen as the 2005 Parent of the Year. The event was attended by over 400 guests with Senate President Robert Bunda as the Guest Speaker. Judges were judge Reynaldo Gaulty, who is judge in the Family Court of the First Judicial Court of Hawaii; State Senator Norman Sakamoto, who is currently the Chairman of the Senate Education and Military Affairs; and Jade Moon, Anchor Newscaster of KGMB 9 TV.
Judging was base on children’s education and nominees’ community involvement. Dr and Mrs. Galindo, who have been married for almost 40 years, have three children. Liza graduated with a BSN Degree from Hawaii Pacific University and is a registered nurse at Queens Medical Center in Hawaii. Jason has a BS Degree in Zoology from University of Washington in Seattle and is an account manager in Kent Washington. Paul was a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Radford high School in Honolulu and has a Master’s Degree in Professional Accounting and Taxation from the University of Washington, Seattle. He works for Price Water House Coopers, LLP, San Francisco, California.
Dr. and Mrs. Adele Galindo joined the Aloha Medical Mission in Vigan, Ilocos Sur 1997 and were briefly involved with Sirmata 2004. Dr. Galindo is the Founder and President of San Esteban Aloha Mission and did missions to the Philippines in December, 2000, 2002, and 2004. Dr. Galindo is currently leading a fund raising project to build the San Esteban Mission Clinic in the Philippines. He is also an advisor to the San Estebanians of Hawaii, the Candonians of Hawaii and honorary member of Urdanetarian Association Club of Hawaii. He is the medical advisor on KNDI Radio every first Friday of the month from 8:00 to 8:39 a.m. during the Flor Martinez Program.
