Dr. Ben R. Galindo Honored by the Hawaii State House of Representatives

On March 1, 2007 during the 24th General Session of the Hawaii State House of Representatives, John Mizuno, 30th District Representative, introduced a resolution to honor Dr. Ben R. Galindo as role model of Filipino ancestry. As the proud son of a second wave “Sakada” who worked in the sugar plantation, Dr Galindo came to Hawaii June, 1963. He immediately started working as a janitor, busboy, orderly, care home assistant, and farmer before he was drafted into the U. S Army in July,1964, during the Viet Nam War. Following his two years in the service, he went back to school in Tacoma, Washington, and became a registered medical technologist. Subsequently, he was accepted as the University of Hawaii Medical School and graduated in 1977. He volunteered in the service and retired as US. Army Medical Officer in August, 1994, with several excellent military awards. Shortly thereafter, he opened his own solo general practice in Waipahu. In August 1997, he and his wife joined the Aloha Medical Mission to the Philippines. In December 2000, 2202, 2004, and 2006, Dr. Galindo and his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Adelle Baxa Galindo, led the San Esteban Aloha Mission (SEAM) Team to the Philippines. In December 2005, the Seam Clinic was built with Dr. and Mrs. Ben Galindo as the main supporters. Dr. Galindo is active in several non-profit Filipino organizations in Hawaii. Dr. and Mrs. Galindo were chosen as the “Parents of the Year 2005” by the Philippine Cultural Foundation of Hawaii. He was chosen as the outstanding Filipino in “Health Care and Medicine 2006” by the United Filipino Council of Hawaii. He was nominated as the “Entrepreneur of the Year 2006” by the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii. From a very humble beginning, Dr. Galindo who come from a small barrio of San Esteban, Ilocos Sur, Philippines is recognized and honored by the Hawaii State of House of Representatives as a role model of his pursuit of education, his service to his country and community and his unconditional support for his three well-educated children.
